Milestones

Established in 1994, Pharmaniaga has evolved to become one of Malaysia’s largest listed integrated pharmaceutical groups. Our participation in the sector spans across the pharmaceutical value chain from research and development to the production of generic drugs, over-the-counter medicines, logistics and distribution, sales and marketing. In 2021, we made history by becoming the first Malaysian pharmaceutical company to fill and finish manufacture a human vaccine.

1994

1994

Southern Task (M) Sdn Bhd changed name to Remedi Pharmaceuticals.
The Government had granted United Engineers Malaysia (UEM) as the Concession Company with the right to take over from Makmal Ubat dan Stor (“MUS”) all manufacturing, purchasing, storage and distribution activities carried out by MUS to Public Sector Customers (“PSCs”).
The concession to privatise the Makmal Ubat dan Stor (MUS) started operations on 1 December 1994 with a paid-up capital of RM 20 million.
Remedi Pharmaceuticals took over from MUS, Ministry of Health Malaysia on all manufacturing, purchasing, storage and distribution activities which have been carried out by MUS including manpower and assets, to manufacture products (including Dangerous Drugs) and to supply listed products to Public Sector Customers.
There was a Novation Agreement dated 30.8.1994 that all rights, liabilities and obligations of UEM under this CA were assigned and transferred to, and vested in Southern Task (M) Sdn Bhd as the Concession Company effective from 30.8.1994. Southern Task was the subsidiary of UEM.

Remedi Pharmaceuticals (now known as Pharmaniaga Logistics Sdn Bhd) became a subsidiary company of Pharmaniaga Berhad, an investment holding company.
Pharmaniaga acquired 100% shares in Raza Manufacturing Berhad, Strand Pharmaceuticals (M) Sdn Bhd making Pharmaniaga Group the first fully integrated healthcare company with principal activities in manufacturing of generic pharmaceuticals, logistics and distribution, sales and marketing, supply of medical products & services and hospital equipping.

Pharmaniaga Berhad made its debut on the Second Board of the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange, (now known as Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad – Bursa)

2001

Pharmaniaga was awarded contracts to set up 10 new hospitals in East Malaysia.
Pharmaniaga’s subsidiary, ehealth4all.com Sdn Bhd (now defunct) was awarded the MSC Company status on 15 March 2001.

 

2002

2002

Completed the corporate rebranding exercise where all companies within the Pharmaniaga Group were renamed to carry the singular Pharmaniaga identity. Raza Pharmaceuticals (Bangi) and Strand Pharmaceuticals (M) Sdn Bhd (Puchong) was then renamed to Pharmaniaga Manufacturing Berhad and Pharmaniaga LifeScience Sdn Bhd.

Migration of Pharmaniaga from the Second Board to the Main Board of the Bursa with increased paid up capital of RM100 million from RM50 million previously via the issuance of bonus shares to shareholders.
Official opening of the new 26000 sq ft warehouse for Pharmaniaga Logistics in Kota Kinabalu by YAB Datuk Chong Kah Kiat, the Chief Minister of Sabah. The warehouse is the largest pharmaceutical warehouse facility in Sabah, providing enhanced service to customers in the state.
•  Official opening of Bukit Raja Complex by Health Minister, YB Dato’ Chua Jui Meng, featuring the new state-of-the-art wing of Pharmaniaga Logistics’ warehouse.
Successfully acquired Safire Pharmaceutical (M) Sdn Bhd to enhance the Group’s manufacturing capacity.

2004

Kicked off the pilot project for the Integrated Hospital Inventory System (IHIS), extending the existing computerised system to cover areas such as the main store, ward supply pharmacy, satellite store and ward unit within government hospitals.
Signed an agreement to purchase 55% equity interest in PT Millennium Pharmacon International Tbk (MPI), a healthcare distribution company in Indonesia.
Completed six hospitals projects – the only in the country to complete six projects on time.

Pharmaniaga’s flagship community project, Mesti Ambil Tahu (MAT) was officially launched by YB Dato’ Chua Soi Lek, Minister of Health at Sri Pentas, TV3.

Official opening of Pharmaniaga Logistics Kuching branch’s new warehouse in Demak Laut Industrial Park. Officiated by Minister of Environment and Public Health Sarawak, the 33,550 sq ft of built-up area reaffirmed our commitment to deliver quality pharmaceuticals and medical products to the people of Sarawak

Official launch of Pharmaniaga Integrated Enterprise Resource Solutions (PIERS) in Bukit Raja HQ. PIERS is the new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, replacing the former Integrated Logistics Systems (ILS/400) to optimise the Group’s administrative duties
The inaugural Vendor Excellence Award (VEA) was held to give due recognition to APPL contract vendors that have shown excellent performance in supplying and ensuring quality products and services throughout a one year supply period.
Launch of Skuad Operasi Sihat (SOS) – mobile clinic facility to complement the MAT campaign, aimed to reach out to the outskirts community promoting healthy lifestyle as well as conducting basic health screening service and counselling

The official launch of SOS Kota Kinabalu chapter at branch office in Kota Kinabalu by the Group’s Managing Director, Mohamad Abdullah.

Pharmaniaga secured a 10 year concession agreement with the Health Ministry to supply medical products to Government-owned hospitals beginning December 2009 until November 2019.

2010

2010

The Puchong manufacturing facility obtained the GMP certification from the Ministry of Health in August 2010. First product license for commercial production was obtained in
December 2010.

2011

2011

Boustead Group acquired Pharmaniaga from UEM Group for RM535mil.
Pharmaniaga LifeScience’s small volume injectables (SVI) facility in Puchong commenced commercial production.
Pharmaniaga’s flagship over the counter (OTC) product range known as Citrex relaunched.

2012

2012

Idaman Pharma Manufacturing Sdn Bhd became a member of the Pharmaniaga Group, optimizing the Group’s manufacturing facilities and production capacities

Pharmaniaga LifeScience facility was awarded with the European Union (EU) Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) Certificate in 2013 by Infarmed Portugal
Pharmaniaga opened its first community pharmacy called RoyalePharma, a retail outlet chain at Seksyen 7, Shah Alam, Selangor.
Pharmaniaga launched its KidZania establishment known as Citrex Vitamin Research Institute at KidZania Kuala Lumpur.

PT Errita Pharma, a manufacturing facility in Bandung, Indonesia successfully acquired by Pharmaniaga.
Pharmaniaga owned RoyalePharma pharmacy opened its flagship store in Bandar Baru Bangi, Selangor.

2016

2016

RoyalePharma pharmacy opened another outlet in Vista Alam, Section 14 Shah Alam, Selangor.
Pharmaniaga acquired Bio-Collagen Technologies Sdn Bhd, a manufacturing facility specialised in collagen-based wound care products based in Seri
Kembangan, Selangor.

Kacip Fatimah extraction method patent granted from the US Patent and Trademark Office.

2017

Pharmaniaga signed a collaboration agreement with DNDi and Pharco Pharmaceuticals for the supply of generic drugs for Hepatitis C treatment.
Pharmaniaga embarked on a partnership with Paradigm Industry Sdn Bhd to produce Sweet Royale, a Stevia-based natural sweetener.
SAP S4/HANA implemented across all Pharmaniaga’s manufacturing sites in Malaysia.
Pharmaniaga LifeScience Sdn Bhd became the first facility in the country to install and commission freeze drying technology for the lyophilisation of small volume injectable pharmaceutical products.

PharmaGREEN initiatives launched company-wide. Among the sustainability related activities implemented include Eco Garden, Choose to Reuse Campaign and SecondChance Project.
Robotics Process Automation (RPA) technology implemented for order processing and invoicing at Pharmaniaga Logistics Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Pharmaniaga.
Pharmaniaga Logistics Sdn Bhd, Pharmanianga’s subsidiary received the Customer Contact Centre ISO 18295-1:2017 certification.
The Do It Right Campaign was enhanced and taken to the next phase with Do It Right Always (DIRA).

Pharmaniaga Logistics Sdn Bhd, Pharmaniaga’s subsidiary received the ISO 37001:2016 – Anti Bribery Management System Certification.
Installation of our first solar panels at our subsidiary, Idaman Pharma Manufacturing Sdn Bhd in Sungai Petani, Kedah.

Pharmaniaga signed a MoA with Serum Institute of India Private Limited (SERUM) to purchase, market, distribute and sell pneumococcal vaccine in Malaysia.
Implemented Internet of Things (IoT) technology on logistics operations to improve real-time temperature monitoring& IoT devices for GPS tracking.

Pharmaniaga entered into an agreement with Sinovac Life Sciences Co., Ltd. to manufacture fill and finish as well as serve as the exclusive distributor of Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine in Malaysia.
Pharmaniaga entered into an agreement with the Malaysian Government in the first quarter of 2021 to supply 12 million doses of the Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine to be filled and finished at our small volume injectable plant, Pharmaniaga LifeScience Sdn Bhd in Puchong, Selangor.
The first delivery of Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine to the MOH.
Pharmaniaga and Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) collaborated to commercialise production of Kelulut (stingless bee) honey.
Pharmaniaga Logistics Sdn Bhd was officially appointed as the sole distributor of Baraka Habbatus Sauda in Malaysia by Pharco Pharmaceuticals of Egypt.
Pharmaniaga exports fill and finish manufactured Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine to Myanmar.
Obtained lot release approval for fill and finish manufactured Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine. A symbolic handover of the first batch of fill and finish manufactured vaccine to the Ministry of Health was held to commemorate this historic moment.
Received conditional approval from the Drug Control Authority for Ravidasvir, first New Chemical Entity for Pharmaniaga and the world.
Pharmaniaga was entrusted by Ministry of Health to manage the logistics and distribution of all AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines received via AstraZeneca, COVAX Facility and also vaccines donated by foreign Governments.
Rabirox launched.
Pharmaniaga successfully completed its obligation to supply 12.4 million doses of Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine to the Federal Government, 4.5 months ahead of schedule.
Launched Arnia Madu Kelulut product range.
Pharmaniaga began the supply of an additional 8 million doses of Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine to the Ministry of Health, completed in August 2021.
Pharmaniaga signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Institutes of Biotechnology Malaysia (NIBM) in the various areas of Research & Development (R&D) on vaccines that Malaysia aims to produce.

Exported the second batch of Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine to Myanmar.
Pharmaniaga LifeScience Sdn Bhd signs Memorandum of Understanding with Thailand’s BioNet Group for vaccine research and development (R&D).
Pharmaniaga Research Centre Sdn Bhd signs Memorandum of Understanding with Thailand’s Bio-Innova Co. Ltd. for bioequivalence solutions as well as pharmaceutical product development innovation.
Pharmaniaga Manufacturing Berhad (PMB) signs Memorandum of Understanding with Prime Medical Store LLC (Prime Medical), a subsidiary of PRIME Healthcare Group as the foundation in establishing the framework that will grant Prime Medical the exclusive right to register, import, promote, market, sell and distribute PMB’s pharmaceutical products in UAE.
Euvax B launched.
The PharmaApprentice Programme was launched as part of Pharmaniaga’s long-term sustainability effort. In collaboration with the Selangor Education Department, a total of 34 underprivileged students, from seven schools within the Selangor district will benefit from this programme which aims to motivate them to excel in their tertiary education.
Exported the third batch of Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine to Myanmar.
Roxatin launched.
Pharmaniaga Logistics Sdn Bhd launched the use of electric vehicles for the delivery of medicines in several areas of the Klang Valley at the 50th Anniversary of the Armed Forces Fund Board at Royal Malaysian Air Force Kuantan, Pahang.
Cruzor and Xynoz launched.
Pharmaniaga’s flagship over the counter (OTC) product range known as Citrex relaunched.
Pharmaniaga Berhad and Perisind Samudra Sdn Bhd signed a Heads of Agreement to facilitate the implementation of Pharmaniaga’s Decarbonisation Programme towards embracing the low-carbon economy and greener practices.
Pharmaniaga Berhad signed a Memorandum of Understanding with JDMAS Commerce Sdn Bhd to commercialise Pharmaniaga’s overthe- counter (OTC) and subsequently pharmaceutical products in China through JD.Com.
Pharmaniaga LifeScience Sdn Bhd, signed a Research Collaboration Agreement with BioNet-Asia Co. Ltd. of Thailand for the development of a 6-in-1 combination vaccine (Hexavalent vaccine) for children’s healthcare, using BioNet formulation.
